Mangroves are one of the species in the coastal ecosystems that are able to absorb and store large amounts of carbon. One hectare of mangrove forest is capable of storing carbon as much as 57.60 tons C and absorbs as much as 72.52 tons C.

Mangroves are also useful for preventing abrasion, storing fresh water sources and as a nursery ground for various marine animals.

Mangroves and their fruit are beneficial for the surrounding community both economically and socially. Their fruit can be processed to be various foods and snacks, and mangrove forest can be developed to be eco-tourism

CORAL

Coral reefs are marine species that are very vulnerable to climate change. Coral reefs are capable of storing carbon as much as 1.60 gC/m2, more effective than tropical rainforests.

Coral reefs are home to various kinds of fish that can be directly beneficial to local fishermen, as well as the development of ecotourism that benefits the surrounding community both economically and socially.

SEAGRASS

Seagrasses are able to store 35 more carbon than tropical rain forests. Although seagrass only grows 0.2% of the seabed, it is able to absorb 10% of all carbon in the world.

Seagrass is an important habitat as a shelter for various marine biota and a source of food for protected marine animals such as turtles and dugongs.
